Begin your walk at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum where you can engage with their Pop-Up exhibit, make your own Sankofa Bird, enjoy food and drinks from Yhana Boba Cafe, travel the path along Central Park to learn Juneteenth facts ending at the Grayslake Area Public Library for a performance by L Theory Dance Collective followed by our Keynote Speaker, Gerald McWorter presenting: "Seven Ways to Freedom: Frank and Lucy McWorter and New Philadelphia, Illinois."
Gerald McWorter (Abdul Alkalimat) is the great-great-grandson of Frank and Lucy McWorter, who founded New Philadelphia, a founder of the field of African American Studies, a 2026-2027 Illinois Humanities Road Scholar, and a professor emeritus from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
